PS5 Won’t Turn On – Possible Solutions For PS5 Not Powering Up

Power Supply May Be Faulty

The most obvious problem is the power supply, so first of all turn off everything and make sure your power cable is connected properly to the PS5. It’s recommended to remove the power cable, waiting a minute, and then plug it back into your console. You can also try another power cord, as it uses the same one that PS3 and PS4 were packaged with.

Alternatively, run a power cycle. Press and hold down the PS5’s power button until the white light stops flashing. Next, remove the power cable, wait at least 20 seconds for the power to drain, and then reconnect it and turn the console back on.

Your PS5 Won’t Detect A Working Display Unit

Make sure the HDMI cable connecting your PS5 and TV is inserted properly. Either remove it and plug it back in again, or try a different HDMI cable.

Your PS5 Is Overheating

If the PS5 isn’t getting proper ventilation and overheating, your console may not turn on or may randomly turn off while you’re playing a game. Indeed, this is an issue that has existed pretty much since the days of the PS2, which would easily overheat.

In order to make sure your PS5 is receiving proper ventilation, make sure it is placed where there are no other object nearby that may block the fans and reduced proper airflow. You should also make sure the vents on the PS5 are cleared of any dust etc.

PS5 Firmware Issues

It’s possible that your PS5 may not be powering up properly due to issues caused by the console’s software updates. For those of you who have the standard edition of the console, try inserting a disc into the disc drive to power it on. Be sure not to force the disc in, though.

Another solution is to restart the PS5 in Safe Mode. To do this, press and hold the power button down for a few seconds, until you hear a second beep, then release it. Next, hook up your DualSense to a USB, press the PS button, and choose ‘Restart PS5.’
